Children

'Rejoice in the presence of children and young people in your meeting and recognise the gifts they bring.' (Advices & Queries 19)

At Out Meetings

We offer a creative and welcoming space for children during our main Meeting for Worship. We believe our youngest members are a vital part of our community.

What to Expect

  • When: Children's activities currently run on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 10:30 am.
  • Where: Sessions usually take place in our dedicated upstairs rooms.
  • Ages: We welcome children of all primary and secondary school ages.
  • Supervision: Your children will be safe with us. We always have a minimum of two adults supervising the sessions (one of whom will have a full DBS).

 Activities & Variety

We embrace variety! The specific activities change from week to week as different volunteers lead the sessions. This ensures a broad range of enjoyable, stimulating, and Quaker-focused activities tailored to the number and age of the children present. Our numbers are currently growing, typically ranging from 2 to 12 children each session.

Important Dates

  • August: We do not run a separate Children's Meeting during August; all families stay in the main worship room.
  • All-Age Worship: We have at least two special All-Age Worship services per year where everyone, including children, stays together for the whole meeting. Please see our main Events Calendar for specific dates.

Your First Visit

If you are new to the Meeting, please feel free to arrive a little early. We can show you and your children around the space, introduce you to the volunteers, and answer any questions you may have. Your children are also welcome to stay with you in the main Meeting Room if they prefer.

Resources

You can now download our ‘Quaker Testimonies’ workbook, which was put together by Abigail Rowse. This pack introduces four Quaker testimonies – simplicity, equality, peace and truth – to younger Quakers and uses quotes, pictures, and activities.
